About my coaching program

The secret to unleashing our potential and fulfillment in work and life lies in aligning three interrelated dimensions: our talented, messy selves and by extension our often fallible perceptions of reality; the goals towards which we dedicate our time, energy and focus; and the designs we put in place to reach them.

Without a deep understanding of these three dimensions and consistent investigation, upskilling and growth in each one, we're like a wobbly three legged stool: limited in the stability and integrity we can experience and create. This approach to coaching may sound like a truism, but our habits, blindspots and human nature make aligning these dimensions challenging, and the few that do it well build a network of support and feedback to succeed and achieve. We can’t make that journey alone.

I'll be your guide, mentor, taskmaster and encourager on your journey developing lifelong skills to continuously evolve on all three dimensions:

⏵We'll decode what makes you tick – the good, the benign and the not-so-good – and sharpen your ability to decode the signal from the noise in the world around you.

We’ll identify where your powers of perception and pattern recognition are exceptional and where you have blindspots, cognitive biases and inaccurate narratives that are distorting your ability to perceive and assess reality and respond more powerfully.

⏵We’ll overhaul the conscious and subconscious designs you've been relying on to get this far – how you work and what you rely on to succeed.

We’ll look at the tools, people, roles, timing, tradeoffs, environments, and velocities of your designs to upgrade them and create new ones that better fit you, your world and your goals.

⏵We’ll recalibrate your goals and where you focus your energy and time to achieve the next level in your career and life.

We’ll make explicit the goals you hold sacrosanct, the ones you just give lip service to, the ones you blindly adhere to and the ones working at cross-purposes. We’ll identify the goals to let go of, the ones to double down on and new ones to orient towards. In addressing these dimensions, we’ll transform how you work, live and play to overcome burnout, achieve and earn more, get promoted faster and find better fit and deeper fulfillment in work and life.

About me

I’m a certified coach with 5+ years of coaching experience and 20+ years in executive roles in consulting, corporate, non-profit and start-up environments.

I bring to my coaching a diverse set of experiences in executive development, management consulting and competitive strategy across numerous industries in the US, Europe and the Middle East: high-tech, health care, life sciences, enterprise software, private equity, national security/defense and cybersecurity.

Top-tier companies have been my "work home" for most of my career, including Accenture, Palantir, Honeywell, The Monitor Group (now MonitorDeloitte) and Talentism, a coaching and advisory firm founded by the former Head of People and Talent at Bridgewater Associates, the world’s largest hedge fund.

Prior to my full-time dedication to coaching, I served for three years as a Senior Executive Coach, Partner and Training and Data Products Lead at Talentism. I joined the firm after serving for five years as a Managing Director in the Strategy, Technology and Security Practices at Accenture, where I led the North America Security Practice for Healthcare and Government. Earlier in my career I worked for the Monitor Group and other strategy advisory firms and lived for six years in the Middle East working with various entities, including Palantir, Honeywell and former White House counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke on counterterrorism and other national security issues with government and commercial clients. My toughest and most rewarding job, however, was teaching British Literature to high school students and leading the residential life program at a Texas boarding school in my early 20s.

I graduated from a 12-month International Coaching Federation-certified coach training program in 2019, learning and practicing the real-world application of coaching approaches based on the adult development theories of Jane Loevinger, Robert Kegan and Carol Gilligan; the philosophical works of Martin Heidegger; and Ken Wilber's Integral Theory, among others.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University with a focus on Foreign Policy, International Security and International Business Diplomacy and a B.A. in English Literature and Spanish from the University of Richmond.

The brightest part of my story by far, however, is my family: I'm married to an ordained Zen priest whose love, patience with my foibles and support of my personal growth is relentless and am father to two wonderful teenagers who bring more joy and meaning to my life than I could ever express.

In my free time I’m an avid board gamer and escape as often as possible to the Rocky Mountains near our home in Denver to read, write, birdwatch, stargaze, ski and hike.
